A significant amount of Indian history has been rewritten due to the British colonialism. Very often, we are unable to understand the correct chronology of events that took place or fathom the reasons behind significant events that took place.
This research paper delves into the real reasons for the outbreak of the 1857 Indian Rebellion by analysing the political, economic, social, long term and short term causes that led to tension between the Indian public and the British Raj. British textbooks often attribute the causation to be the greased Enfield cartridges, which although was a major causation, was not the sole reason. Through this research paper, I tried to rediscover a part of Indian history.
